Patients referred to the Internal Medicine service will be initially seen by our Internal Medicine Specialist.  Alenka who is running our medicine service has a specialist veterinary status or a diploma in internal medicine (post nominals DipECVIM-CA) which is the highest level of recognition of expertise in the veterinary profession and is extremely difficult to achieve and maintain.  Internal medicine specialists have undertaken intensive training, lasting a minimum of 3 years supervised closely by other board-certified diploma holders.

Alenka will see your pet for a range of conditions, where they are ongoing/ unresolved, reoccurring or if you just want a second opinion.

The list of typical conditions include. Please note, this is not exhaustive and we would recommend you call us if you want to check if an internal medicine referral is appropriate (hint, if it’s not surgical it probably will be).

  • Intermittent gastrointestinal problems
  • Liver and pancreatic diseases
  • Cases with PU/PD
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections or blood in the urine

  • Vaginitis or reproductive problems
  • Endocrine disorders

  • Pyrexia of undetermined origin
  • Infectious diseases
  • Endoscopic procedures – gastrointestinal , respiratory , vaginoscopy and lower urinary tract

  • Arthrocentesis (sampling of the joint fluid)
