Cherry’s Distichia – Referral Ophthalmology

 Meet Cherry!

Cherry

Cherry came to see our referral ophthalmologist Jess after struggling with a painful left eye. After a full ophthalmic examination, Jess found the cause of Cherry’s discomfort to be two Distichia on her upper eyelid.

Distichia are hairs that grow through edge of the eyelid towards the cornea rather than away from it like normal eyelashes.

Cherry in Surgery with Jess

Cherry was admitted for a general anaesthetic and cryosurgery. The cryosurgery carefully freezes the hair follicle to prevent re-growth of the hair. Cherry has also been diagnosed with dry eye which will require long-term medication.

At her post-operative check 14 days’ later Cherry was happy to see Jess and her owner’s have noticed a real difference in her comfort levels.
