Behind again with the posting…(Whoops that’s my fault this time as Kelly gave me this a month ago…sorry! – Jason)
It’s that time of the month again where we get to announce a pet that has stood out a little more for being brave and a real star patient! It’s getting harder and harder each month, as we celebrate our 6 month anniversary and realise just how busy we have got. Choosing one who stands out amongst the hundreds we see is quite a challenge now but one that we all relish.
One particular patient stands out is a frequent visitor of Bright Side Vets – Milo Jones – a lovely male brindle Staffie who has been coming to us from the start. Milo is owned by a fantastic client called Vicky who has never failed to provide Milo with whatever he needs. Embracing all of our core services like our VIPets club (membership provides all of your essential pet needs like worming, flea treatment and vaccines) but also our nurse Sian’s free weight clinic. With Sian’s help, including nutritional advice and regular checks on weight and body measurements Milo has lost almost 4kg since starting!
Milo’s impressive diet result, however, is only a fraction of his story. The full truth behind the need to lose weight was being diagnosed with “luxating patellas” of both his hind limbs. Sadly this is not an uncommon condition in Staffordshire Bull Terriers as well as other breeds. This is where the knee cap becomes unstable and moves easily from side to side rather than sitting in its bony groove. This causes instability, pain and eventually arthritis in the knee joints. When he came to us, Milo had a degree of lameness in both hind limbs. After X-Rays, under a general anaesthetic, the severity of Milos’s condition was determined and two operations were staged. Initially repairing the worse affected hind limb, which we did this month. The second surgery, for the opposite limb, is planned in another few months.

Milo is making great progress on his repaired limb but he’s not quite there yet with the next operation planned for next month. Having been through so much Milo is a clear winner! So well done Milo for being a lovely, brave patient who is always great to work with.
