Hi, I’m Alanna and I’m a student nurse at Bright Side.
My enthusiasm for the veterinary profession has been fostered since my childhood by a deep interest in animals and their health. Academically, I have always thoroughly enjoyed Science, especially Biology and Chemistry. I studied these subjects through GCSE’s and A level’s and this gave me the advantage of having a complex understanding of the basics in science. This has provided me a basis on which to pursue a career as a Veterinary Nurse.
Currently, I’m in my fourth and final year of my BSc Veterinary Nursing Degree at Moreton Morrell College. I also work at Bright Side Vets as part of my course. By working in practice alongside finishing my degree I can gain and perfect the skills I need for when I start full time work next year as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).
I enjoy nursing all the animals we see at Bright Side and have a particular soft spot for cats. At home I have two that I rescued as kittens. I treat every cat like my own, making sure they have lots of cuddles during their stay with us. Bright Side is a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic and I enjoy upholding our standards!
I also enjoy working with larger exotic animals. I was lucky to enough to travel to South Africa to do some veterinary work with White Rhinos. This was an amazing experience was very interesting. In the future I would like to continue my work in small animal practice and I would also like to travel to see what the Veterinary Nursing profession is like in other parts of the world.
When I’m not working, I like to keep fit by going to the gym and playing netball. I like to travel and have ticked lots of places off the map. I fly home to Gibraltar several times a year where I enjoy visiting the beach and the tapas restaurants! I’m also quite creative and can often be found with a paintbrush in hand.
That’s all from me for now, I look forward to seeing you in the practice soon.
